Richard Paul Evans’ Finding Noel, a tinsel-trimmed tale about two baggage-laden but bighearted people brought together by a dead car battery, is well-suited for anyone who cries at long-distance phone ads and believes in the healing powers of cocoa. Plus, it’s small-screen-ready: Hallmark Hall of Fame presents John Stamos as toilet-scrubbing musician Mark and Anne Heche as ”miraculous” orphan Macy! On the page, however, Evans’ aphorisms — ”Oftentimes the greatest hurts of our lives come from running from the smaller ones” — are like a gallon-size jug of eggnog. Sweet, but no one can swig the whole thing in one sitting.
