We gave it a D+
Kyle Smith’s debut novel, 2004’s best-selling Love Monkey, spawned a short-lived CBS series, but don’t expect his latest, A Christmas Caroline, to follow suit. An arrogant editor at Presents magazine (a ringer for Lucky), Caroline despises everything about Christmas. On the eve of the loathsome holiday, the ghosts of Christmases past, present, and future converge on her glitzy Manhattan apartment. This farcical, high-fashion take on Dickens’ classic is incredibly contrived; instead of rooting for the nasty Caro, you’ll want to smack her upside the head with her Hermès bag. Smith should stick to what he knows best: men.
