Ever feel like Greek tragedies are too much of a downer? Clearly, playwright John Epperson — a.k.a. drag diva Lypsinka — does. His tweak of Euripides’ Medea is Classics by way of The Golden Girls and Kids in the Hall. In sultry Mississippi, local newswoman My Deah Hedgepeth (Nancy Opel) goes bonkers after hubby Gator (Maxwell Caulfield) leaves her for a younger woman. Who bears the brunt of My Deah’s wrath? Well, everyone: children, friends, maids, lovers — and the audience. Opel and Caulfield gamely jump into the broad comedy, but the hokey jokes and flat lines seem as old as the source material (”Euripides, you pay for these!” shouts one character). This comic spin on Medea could leave you just as depressed as the original. (Tickets: Smarttix.com or 212-868-4444)
