We gave it an A-

In Hundred-Dollar Baby, author Robert B. Parker notes, ”Without some sort of major intervention, people don’t change much.” That’s good news for us. Throughout his 34th outing, Boston PI Spenser remains a lovable, troublemaking wiseacre. In his newest case, a high-priced call girl from his past comes looking for protection, and the results are death, blackmail, and a run-in with the New York Mob. While the straightforward plot gallops along, Parker nicely interjects a few questions on the morality of love and violence among Spenser’s pithy bons mots about murder: ”The slug they dug out of him was a .22. A woman’s gun? Or was I being a sexist oinker?”
