Okay, we were already excited about the upcoming 10th anniversary performance of Chicago at Broadway’s Ambassador Theatre. Hard to believe, but it’s been a decade since the stripped-down revival first shimmied onto Broadway, proving that you don’t need a set to have a hit. (Victoria’s Secret-style costumes, however, go a long way.)
Original revival leads Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Joel Grey, and James Naughton will be there, as will such famous replacements as Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith (who must be seen to be believed), ex-Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson, and Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter. Now we hear that Ashlee Simpson (pictured) — starring in the current London production as empty-headed husband-killer Roxie (see EW’s review here) — will be tapping by as well.
Will she lip-synch? Will Jessica and her hairstylist be in the audience? Will she be singing “Roxie,” which boasts the lyric “they’re gonna recognize my eyes, my hair, my teeth, my boobs, my nose”? The Nov. 14 event benefits NYC’s Safe Horizon (ticket info is here), so you can find out for yourself for a good cause.
