Like a smoothie made with vinegar, this awkward mixture of chick lit, prison drama, and revenge tale does not go down easily. Allie Bowen works PR at a Las Vegas casino until she and her pathetic magician ex-hubby, Barry Houdini, are framed for counterfeiting. Allie turns to bartending at a local strip club while Barry goes to prison. Yes, this is meant to be comedic. In one scene, Barry beats a fellow prisoner with a sock of batteries. Hilarious! Turning the Tables moves quickly (it’s just over 200 pages), and there are hints Rita Rudner can write, but one wishes that this bad decision, like so many made in Vegas, had stayed in Vegas.
