We gave it a C+
If ”Benjamin” refers to singer Ben Burnley, he’s clearly already broken. Nearly every track on the Pennsylvania hard-rockers Breaking Benjamin’s third CD is a cry in the darkness of a cruel world. Lyrics like ”Borderline/dead inside/I don’t mind” (”Unknown Soldier”) and ”put me to sleep, evil angel/Open your wings, evil angel” (um, ”Evil Angel”) are, frankly, on the lighter side of Phobia. But as pathological angst goes, it’s expertly done, with expansive choruses and epic riffs — not that that matters, when, like, we’re all going to die cold and alone anyway.
