On July 28, CBS Corp. asked a federal court to overturn the $550,000 fine imposed by the FCC after Janet Jackson‘s breast flash during the 2004 Super Bowl. The network called the penalty ”capricious and unconstitutional.” FCC reps said they will ”vigorously defend the fine.”… Record labels Universal, Sony BMG, Warner Music, and EMI settled with file-sharing network Kazaa on July 27. In the wake of a July 13 antitrust ruling against a similar merger, EMI (home to Coldplay) and Warner Music (whose roster includes Green Day) announced July 27 that they have nixed plans to merge. Combined, the companies would have formed the world’s second-largest music conglomerate.
