Now I’m not sure if you felt abandoned by your blogfather last week and are still holding my post-Easter-weekend absenceagainst me, or if you thought the question was boring or too easy or toodifficult, but for whatever reason, not many of you responded thisweek. How can I win/earn/buy back your love, my blogchildren? Send suggestions to email@example.com. (Keep it clean. I was young; I needed the money.)
So what do Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood, and Diane Lane have in common? They have all portrayed Secret Service agents in high-profile movie roles. You can add to that list (pictured, in descending order of plausibility) Kiefer Sutherland, Michael Douglas, and Eva Longoria, who star in this week’s The Sentinel.
But back to our question: Cage protects a former First Lady (Shirley MacLaine) in Guarding Tess; Connery, of course, played the most famous member of Her Majesty’s Secret Service, James Bond; Costner plays a former Secret Service agent who slums for Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard; Eastwood tracks the movements of a looney-tunes John Malkovich in In the Line of Fire; and Diane Lane teams up with Wesley Snipes to investigate the Chief Executive in Murder at 1600.
So of those who did show me some respect this week, about a third of you knew the answer. No jokes. No wit. Secret-servicing is serious business. We’re talking about the president here, people!
