Who’s making deals in the week of December 2, 2005 — The biggest upcoming projects in entertainment

MOVIES Channeling his inner Tyrone Power, Adrien Brody will don the sequined jacket of legendary bullfighter Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez, a.k.a. Manolete. Shooting on the biopic, which also stars Penélope Cruz, will begin in Spain in March, under the direction of Menno Meyjes (Max).

THEATER Multihyphenate couple — and upcoming Rent costars — Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have apparently eliminated all need for sleep. ”I’m doing an Off Broadway play [See What I Wanna See] right now, and then I’m recording a solo album,” explains Menzel. Is that all? ”I’m also in the movie Ask the Dust with Colin Farrell and Salma Hayek, out in March.” And what about your cute-as-a-button hubby? Says Diggs, ”I’m in an Off Broadway production called A Soldier’s Play, and my manager and I are developing a TV show for ABC/Touchstone.”

MOVIES What’s Justin Theroux thankful for this year? Friends. The Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle hottie has lined up Billy Crudup and Mandy Moore for his directorial debut, Dedication, a rom-com set in the children’s-book world. ”I knew Billy because I’d worked with him before, and I had met Mandy socially through Zach Braff. When she and Billy read some scenes together informally, their chemistry was fantastic.” Dedication starts in Manhattan next February.

TELEVISION Boxing Helena fans — all two of you — will be thrilled to learn that both stars of the 1993 vivisection tale have secured recurring roles for the New Year: Sherilyn Fenn will appear as the mother of Scott Patterson’s long-lost daughter on Gilmore Girls; Julian Sands will glower as a nasty billionaire on 24.

MOVIES After flicks about soccer and car racing, Will Ferrell may be on to the manly art of figure skating. He and Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jon Heder are in talks to play former rivals forced to pair (and Lycra) up as a team in the Olympics.
