Who was that, during the opening moments of last night’s BET Awards, rocking the pageboy ‘do, the pantsuit, and the giant, ruffled neckerchief? Why, it was R&B recluse Lauryn Hill! Despite the uncanny resemblance to Carol Channing, Hill was in fine form as she and her once-and-former bandmates performed on TV together for the first time in about a decade. Their medley — ”Ready or Not,” ”Fu-Gee-La,” and, of course, ”Killing Me Softly” — brought the house down. Backstage, Pras was telling reporters that the Fugees have buried all hatchets and have been back in the studio. Can’t wait for the resulting album? Me neither, but you can get a taste of their performance in a three-minute clip at BET.com. Also there is a clip of the show’s other highlight, Destiny’s Child performing ”Cater 2 U” by bringing Terrence Howard, Nelly, and Magic Johnson on stage and giving them lap dances. If you’re splitting up, might as well go out with a bang.
