She’s a singleton no more. After just a four-month courtship, Renée Zellweger married Kenny Chesney on Monday, the Oscar-winning actress’ publicist announced. According to TV’s The Insider, the wedding took place at the country singer’s home on St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s the first marriage for both Zellweger, 36, and Chesney, 37.
Long before he met her, Chesney was a Zellweger fan, whose 1999 hit ”You Had Me From Hello” was inspired by her famous line in Jerry Maguire. Before they met, Zellweger had dated such high-profile stars as Jim Carrey and White Stripes frontman Jack White, while Chesney was previously engaged to healthcare administrator Mandy Weals, though he called off the engagement three weeks before their scheduled 1999 wedding.
Chesney met Zellweger four months ago at the Jan. 15 Concert for Hope tsunami relief telethon, where he performed while she answered phones and solicited pledges. They kept their relationship under wraps until about a week ago, on April 29, during a concert in Jacksonville, Fla. During the song ”When the Sun Goes Down,” Chesney is usually served a margarita by a stagehand, but this time, his cocktail waitress was Zellweger, who planted a kiss on the surprised singer as she delivered the drink. Last week, gossips spotted them smooching at a restaurant near Nashville.
As she does on the red carpet, Zellweger wore a Carolina Herrera gown, her publicist said, while Chesney walked the aisle in bare feet. The reception was held, for about 45 relatives and friends, at the island’s gated community of Peter Bay, the Associated Press reports.
Don’t expect the country couple to have a long honeymoon. Chesney’s current tour takes him to Little Rock, Ark., on Thursday, while Zellweger is expected to start making the press rounds soon to promote her June 3 movie Cinderella Man.
