Rapper DMX (né Earl Simmons), 33, pleaded guilty Dec. 8 in a Queens court to reckless endangerment and driving while under the influence of Valium in conjunction with an incident in June 2004, in which he crashed through a parking-lot gate at an NYC airport. Simmons was fined $1,000, ordered to forfeit his 1998 Ford Expedition, and sentenced to probation. His lawyer says, ”He ended up with just a misdemeanor, which resolved the issue most favorably.”… JMS Entertainment filed suit against American Idol judge Paula Abdul, 42, for fraud and breach of contract Dec. 14 in NYC, claiming that she reneged on her agreement to star in and produce a DVD entitled Paula Abdul’s How to Become a Star. They seek $5 million in damages. Reps for Abdul did not return calls for comment…. Actress Sharon Stone, 46, is suing Los Angeles plastic surgeon Renato Calabria for unspecified damages. The suit, filed Dec. 13 in L.A., alleges that Calabria defamed Stone by telling reporters that the actress had undergone a face-lift. Calabria’s reps say, ”Dr. Calabria has never told anyone that he performed plastic surgery on Sharon Stone. The lawsuit is erroneous.”
Godfather of Soul James Brown, 71, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was scheduled to undergo surgery Dec. 15. A full recovery is expected. ”I have overcome a lot of things in my life,” Brown said in a statement. ”I will overcome this as well.”… Dick Clark, 75, host of American Bandstand and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, was hospitalized after suffering a mild stroke at his home in Malibu, Calif., Dec. 6. For the first time in 33 years, Clark will not host his New Year’s Eve program. Talk- show host Regis Philbin will fill in. Clark said in a statement, ”It’ll feel strange watching it on TV, but my doctors felt it was too soon. I’m sure Regis will do a great job.”…Singer Elton John, 57, was forced to cancel a concert in Glasgow, Scotland, Dec. 12, because of a throat infection. Two days prior, John scuttled a concert in Nottingham, England, citing similar problems. John said in a statement, ”I’m sorry to disappoint all the people who’ve bought tickets.”
