We gave it a C
Peter Biskind didn’t do a whole lot of research for his latest book, but, boy, he must have strained himself at the Xerox machine. In this collection of his old film writings from the 1970s and ’80s, only a few suggest what he would ultimately do in best-sellers like Easy Riders, Raging Bulls — a meaty piece on Sundance he wrote for Premiere in 1991, for instance, or one on super-agent Sue Mengers for Vanity Fair in 2000. The rest of these pages are filled with much more scholarly (read: boring) stuff, such as an exegesis on Rocky Balboa that appeared in Socialist Review in 1980. Gods and Monsters is only for true Biskind believers.
