We gave it a C

Romantic-comedy soundtracks should boast flashes of wit and ardor, but Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason rarely has either. Most of the album consists of cloying touchstones like Minnie Riperton’s ”Lovin’ You,” while many of the remakes — such as Mary J. Blige doing Elton John’s ”Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” and Will Young’s cover of Sade’s ”Your Love Is King” — are soggily sentimental. Robbie Williams’ sly ”Misunderstood” and Jamie Cullum’s inventive cover of ”Everlasting Love” are standouts, but there’s little else to make even a love junkie like Bridget swoon.
