We gave it a C+
No, it’s not a metal band, but rather the coming out of former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist/siren Melissa Auf der Maur. Her abbreviated, logo-ready moniker is more than fitting. Auf der Maur wants to crank it as hard and loud as the boys, and she does just that with the help of Queens of the Stone Age and members of her two prior groups. The result is professional, commercial alt-rock that takes flight intermittently, as in ”Taste You,” which best captures her mix of femininity and fury. But the album’s monolithic sound also feels dated and drab: the perfect CD for 1995, released too late.
