How to make an ubercontroversial biopic: Cast the hubby of Democratic Party loyalist Barbra Streisand as the conservative, Bible-thumping Gipper. Write an aggressively corny script depicting the First Lady as a pill-popping, astrology-obsessed Mommie Dearest. And bluntly remind voters that the jelly-bean-loving President not only reacted apathetically toward the AIDS crisis but may have shown signs of Alzheimer’s while still in the White House. Voila! You now have a unilateral three-hour movie about ”America’s first dysfunctional family” that GOPers — and CBS — deemed too incendiary for network TV (it ended up airing on Showtime).

EXTRAS Reaganiacs, proceed with caution: Uncensored extended scenes plus a candid Brolin interview and commentary by executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will only get your right-wing tongues wagging more.
