We gave it a B+
Greg Gilbert, the leader of this U.K. quartet, sings in an effeminate yet expansive soprano that billows around the band’s lush watercolor arrangements. Hence, this debut signals the revival of the early-’90s halcyon days of the Cocteau Twins. But where the Twins tended toward soft-focus, the Delays are more rocking, thanks to a big-bottomed rhythm section. Wallflowers will find it hard to sit this one out.
