10 things EW loves: Week of April 23, 2004
1. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
We beseech you, O Fox Network, to renew this nutty series (which concluded April 25) about the dysfunctional Bluth family!
2. THE PARTY, AFTER YOU LEFT, BY ROZ CHAST
How absurd is life? Very, according to this collection of hilarious cartoons from the New Yorker contributor.
3. SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, WINTER…AND SPRING
A beautiful South Korean film about an old Buddhist monk and his rebellious apprentice, who goes on to become…an old Buddhist monk!
4. STEP INTO LIQUID
Duuuuude! This surfing documentary is, like, totally rad. And the two-disc DVD set is packed with bodacious extras like interviews and featurettes with some seriously gnarly waves. Coooool.
5. PBS’ ‘BOOHBAH’
We at the ML are transfixed by this strangely psychedelic kids’ show that feels like a cross between Pokemon, the Teletubbies, and Jell-Oon acid.
6. JESSE PALMER on ABC’s ‘The Bachelor’
How could we not salute the New York Giants quarterback lunkhead who said ”Katie” instead of ”Karen” in, like, the best rose ceremony ever?
7. THE FIRST 15 MINUTES OF ‘LETTERMAN’ ON CBS
Thank you, Dave, for cracking us up with your wondrously imaginative pre-interview shtick. ”Trump or Monkey?” Love it!
8. TWO WAY MONOLOGUE, SONDRE LERCHE
Because guitar and a cute Norwegian accent go a long way.
9. SHAOLIN SOCCER
Monks as sports heroes! Kung fu on the field! A bald female goalie! Writer-director Stephen Chow’s weirdo genre mishmash has us all fired up for fists-a-flyin’ football!
10. BLACK SABBATH’S BLACK BOX
Ozzy, we willingly submit to this nine-disc set featuring remastered versions of all eight albums and a DVD.
