We gave it a B
Cheaper by the Dozen, a fun, harmless spin on the 1948 memoir and remake of the 1950 film, puts the affably wacky Steve Martin and slyly sardonic Bonnie Hunt at the head of the sprawling, sparkling Baker brood. Things get predictably crazy when Dad is offered a high-profile coaching gig in the city, uprooting the Baker dozen from their comfortable country digs to tony Evanston, Ill. The requisite frog, crotch, and vomit jokes are dished out with a generous helping of family values for widest audience appeal, and Ashton Kutcher punks himself to good effect as a narcissistic boyfriend who falls victim to the children’s schemes.
EXTRAS Deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, and full-length commentaries by director Shawn Levy and some Baker kids with such insights as ”Is ‘goober’ a real word?” and ”Ha! He picks his nose!”
