10 things EW loves: Week of April 2
1. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND
We could never forget Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey’s mind-bending memory-erasure love story!
2. MTV’S ‘PIMP MY RIDE’
Wassup, dawg! The ML is wishin’ that Xzibit and crew would slap some 22-inch rims and a PS2 onto our ’86 Sentra and turn a driveway disaster into a stylin’ and profilin’ love machine.
A lovelorn Cillian Murphy, a snarling Colin Farrell, a mustached Shirley Henderson, and a U2 tune are just a few of the things to love about this refreshing Irish ensemble flick.
4. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, SEASON 5
Sweetie darling! What could possibly be more smashing than Edina and Patsy’s latest adventures on DVD?
5. FRANZ FERDINAND
Rock’s Next Big Things are Scotsmen named after the archduke whose assassination started WWI. Oh, and they make swell music, too.
6. ANIMAL CRACKERS, by Hannah Tinti
Rabbits and roosters and monkeys, oh my! In 10 spellbinding, funny, and oddly wonderful stories, newcomer Tinti draws out the hidden critters in all of us humans.
This sly British noir about a writer who goes back to dealing cards made a star out of a brooding Clive Owen. Released in 2000, it’s on DVD at last.
8. LIGHT BRIGADE
You’ll get a, uh, charge from DC’s WWII-horror comic book in which American GIs battle Nazis for the mystical Sword of God.
9. FANTASIA vs. LA TOYA on ‘American Idol’
Don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to see how this diva showdown plays out. Let’s hear it for the ladies with the powerful pipes!
10. SUPPORTING CAST OF ‘THE SOPRANOS’
Drea de Matteo’s Adriana! Vince Curatola’s Johnny Sack! Heck, we’ll even praise Aida Turturro’s icky Janice!
