”Connie and Carla” is one of the 10 movies we can’t wait to see in early 2004
WHAT IT IS ”Some Like It Hot,” only with two women pretending to be men who are drag queens (got it?). Connie (Nia Vardalos, left) and Carla (Toni Collette, right) witness a Mob hit and head for L.A., where they find sanctuary in the dinner theater/cabaret scene.
WHY WE CAN’T WAIT It’s Vardalos’ first big-screen outing since her huge hit (”My Big Fat Greek Wedding”) and humongous miss (”My Big Fat Greek Life,” the series).
BURNING QUESTION Can she recapture the audience she lost with the TV show?
COME FOR The always interesting Collette’s return to comedy, the genre in which she first gained notice (1994’s ”Muriel’s Wedding”)
STAY FOR David Duchovny in yet another befuddling post-”X-Files” role, as a guy who falls for one of the girls acting like guys acting like girls. Confused? Don’t worry — the truth is out there.
