Teens are famously sarcastic. So why is much of the music manufactured for them so literal-minded? Happily, 17-year-old Katy Rose spends much of her debut rolling her eyes like a real kid. ”I need a shower when I look at you/You sting and hurt like a new tattoo,” she tells a suitor. She likens her life to ”some cheap champagne/My glass is full but it tastes like s — -.” If only the neo-new-wave production and Rose’s conversational vocals had as much sass.
