We gave it a B
The Jim Henson-Frank Oz collaboration of yesteryear is a lot like ”The Lord of the Rings” in that it features a young male on a quest to conquer evil. Only this time, he’s a puppet. Said puppet is sent by a wise Mystic (also a puppet) on a journey to end a thousand years of suffering at the hands of the wicked Skekses (puppets, more of them). The look and feel of the film may seem dated, but this live-action yet actorless exercise is distinct enough to stand apart from typical fantasy fare.
EXTRAS The deleted scenes and making-of doc are enlightening and entertaining. However, fans will really geek out over the reproduced notepad that features Henson’s original outlines and story ideas. Not that I did or anything.
