Reese Witherspoon continues to specialize in playing overachievers. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she’s attached to star in ”Daughter of the Queen of Sheba,” based on the memoir by Jacki Lyden, who overcame a difficult upbringing under a delusional mother to become a National Public Radio correspondent. Meryl Streep has expressed interest in playing Lyden’s manic-depressive mom, who would try to convince others that she was the Queen of Sheba, Marie Antoinette, or other powerful figures. Karen Croner, who scripted Streep’s mother-daughter saga ”One True Thing,” wrote the screenplay.
There’s no director or start date for the production; the film could be a long way off, given how busy Witherspoon is. She’s about to shoot ”Vanity Fair” in England, and she’s attached to star in a biopic about Amy Biehl, an American activist slain in South Africa a decade ago. Plus, she and husband Ryan Phillippe have a second child on the way.
