”Bend It Like Beckham” star Parminder Nagra recently told Entertainment Weekly that, five years ago, ”I did this cosmic shopping list. You write down something you’d like to do in five years. I wrote down ‘a film,’ thinking I’d get a small part — but I got a lead in one that happened to be a really successful film!” Maybe she also wrote down ”a series,” since she’s just landed a role on one of America’s top dramas. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she’s signed to play a medical student next season on ”ER.”
”Beckham,” the comedy in which Nagra stars as a soccer-obsessed young Sikh woman in London, has been a huge hit in the U.K. and a good-sized arthouse hit in the States, having grossed $9.1 million in its seven weeks of release here. The 27-year-old also costars with Anne Hathaway (”The Princess Diaries”) in the upcoming ”Shrek”-like fantasy ”Ella Enchanted.”
The British-born actress has already been preparing for her U.S. role by learning how to drive on the right side of the street. ” I drove as well for the first time [in Los Angeles] over the weekend,” she told EW, ”so I’m all chuffed with myself. I was like, ‘I’m driving in America!”’ After that, surgery should be a snap.
