We gave it a D
In theory, it’s nice that this Bay Area group thought to integrate musical elements everyone else has kept separate: punk, Goth, and art-rock, to be specific. But maybe everyone else had the right idea. On the major-label debut from this much-buzzed-about band, the songs combine the most pretentious and overworked elements of their influences. Worse, frontman Davey Havok owns the squeakiest voice in current rock. Think early Geddy Lee imitating a squirrel.
