It was an absolutely hellish week for best-selling books. We mean that in a good way. Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City fireballed its way onto the nonfiction list, opening at No. 4 with 175,000 copies in print. Meanwhile, Matthew Pearl’s The Dante Club, a debut novel revolving around a series of grisly 19th-century murders inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, entered the upper circle of the fiction list, resting at No. 10 in its first week on the chart.
