A The bank robber’s pickled privates were never part of the collection, says a rep for the Smithsonian, which annually fields hundreds of requests about the rumored relic. The myth might have begun with a 1934 postmortem photo in which Dillinger’s arm created a tentlike bulge below his abdomen. Urban-legends expert Barbara Mikkelson says nothing ”out of the ordinary” was mentioned in Dillinger’s autopsy, nor was he known as a lady-killer. — Karyn L.
