MONDAY January 6

8-10PM BIOGRAPHY: JOHN TRAVOLTA (A&E, TV-G) Sure, I could make a load of Battlefield Earth cracks, but why do that when you have…The Experts!

8-9PM THE PET PSYCHIC (Animal Planet, TV-G) I talk to animals too, but I don’t have my own TV show. On second thought, there’s probably a reason for that.

8-9PM STORM STORIES (Weather Channel) Go beyond your local forecast and check out the wrath of Mother Nature. Wrath!

9-10PM* LANCE LOUD! A DEATH IN AN AMERICAN FAMILY (PBS, TV-PG) PBS pays tribute to TV’s first openly gay man from TV’s first reality show.

9:30-10PM ABBY (UPN, TV-PG) It’s like The War of the Roses — UPN style! — when Sydney Tamiia Poitier and Kadeem Hardison star as a former couple still living together.

9-10PM JOE MILLIONAIRE (Fox, TV-PG) Fox’s decision to air a series in which the network lies to 20 women and tells them they’re competing for the love of a multimillionaire when he’s actually a plain ol’ construction worker (right) is dishonest, deceitful, and completely distasteful. Which is why we’re counting down the seconds till tonight’s debut. Besides, I support the idea of being able to tell people you’re Richie Rich instead of, say, a lowly TV reporter.

TUESDAY January 7 8-9PM* SPIES THAT FLY (PBS) NOVA takes flight with a look an unmanned aerial vehicles and how they’re changing the way our armed forces do battle.

9-11PM PROBABLE CAUSE (Travel Channel, TV-PG) They say flying is still the safest way to travel. And then they go and show you specials like this, highlighting ”the worst airplane crashes in aviation history.” Nice.

9-10PM COLD CASE FILES: CRIMES OF THE KLAN (A&E, TV-PG) Sorry, but how do you keep this to an hour?

10-11PM THE SHIELD (FX, TV-MA-LSV) Is it possible not to love a show with the line ”How do we explain 400 grand in cash and a doped-out drug lord in our trunk?” No, it’s not.

11PM-12:30AM F**KLAND (Sundance Channel, TV-MA) Language!

KOFI’S WORLD 9-10:30PM* KOFI ANNAN: CENTER OF THE STORM (PBS, TV-V) You’ll come away with newfound respect for the United Nations secretary-general after watching this PBS documentary. See Annan as he goes from declaring East Timor a sovereign nation to explaining his job to Elmo (left). Behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and lots of historical background shed light on this quiet man whose stately style gives meaning to the word dignitary. A — Monica Mehta

9-10PM AMERICAN JUSTICE: WHO KILLED HANNAH HILL? (A&E, TV-PG) Ohio police made an arrest within 24 hours of finding the 18-year-old’s body. But it all went downhill from there.

10-11PM CELEBRITY MOLE HAWAII (ABC) It’s not like we were ready to hand Anderson Cooper an Emmy or anything, but turning over the hosting reins to Ahmad Rashad? Ouch. That’s almost as bad as having half of your footage suffer water damage. Again, ouch.
