‘ROYAL’ FAMILY AFFAIR

It’s official: the geeks shall inherit the earth. The Royal Tenenbaums, Wes Anderson’s tale of a family of eccentric prodigies–featuring Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ben Stiller–made a rather ingenious rental debut in second place, right beneath Shallow Hal. That gives Ms. Paltrow the enviable honor of costarring in movies that hold both the first and second spots on the chart–not bad for a girl with only one and a half vowels in her first name.
