Oh, Rob! Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore will star in their first comedy project together since their classic sitcom ”The Dick Van Dyke Show” ended its run nearly four decades ago. This week, the two begin filming ”The Gin Game,” a comedy about two nursing home residents who crack wise over endless games of cards, for PBS, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
D.L. Coburn, who won a Pulitzer Prize for the original play in 1977, is adapting the script. The original Broadway version starred husband-and-wife team Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn, who reprised their roles in a PBS version in 1981.
”Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore are two of America’s most beloved television icons,” said PBS president Pat Mitchell in a statement, ”and we are thrilled to reunite them in a production that will showcase their legendary chemistry in ways we’ve never seen before.” Just don’t trip over the ottoman this time, Dick, or you might break a hip.
