We gave it a B+
Only Crispin Glover has gone farther on the fumes of weirdness than the Lips, and with this spectacularly trippy album, the race is really on. The ”concept” here has something to do with gladiator robots captivated by their own synthetic emotions. Not that this in any way inhibits the enjoyment of what is essentially a pop album. Songs like ”Fight Test” and ”Do You Realize” have various tics — echoes, chirps, and unresolved musical tangents abound — but they’re so sweet-souled that such sins are easily forgiven.
