Think the MTV Movie Awards are off the wall? Take a look at the 4th Annual Teen Choice Awards, where Denzel Washington and Halle Berry aren’t up for the top movie acting prizes, but Barry Watson (”Sorority Boys”), Matthew Lillard (”Scooby-Doo”), and Britney Spears (”Crossroads”) are. Even more unabashedly teen-centric than the MTV ceremony, the Seventeen magazine-sponsored gala will give out awards to teen icons in 24 categories across five genres — movies, TV, music, sports, and general hottie-osity. The ceremony will air on Fox on August 19, with poll-chosen winners taking home a way-cool trophy: a full-size surfboard.
Spears has the most nominations with five nods across multiple genres, including Best Actress in a Drama (”Crossroads”), Best Chemistry (with Anson Mount in ”Crossroads”), Best Single (”I’m a Slave 4 U”), Best Female Artist, and Female Hottie. Current Seventeen cover girl Sarah Michelle Gellar earned four nods: Best Actress in a Comedy (”Scooby-Doo”), Best Chemistry (with real-life fiancé Freddie Prinze Jr. in ”Scooby-Doo”), Best TV actress (”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), and Female Hottie. Jennifer Lopez is close behind with three nominations, for Best Actress in a Drama (”Enough”), Best Single (”Ain’t It Funny,” with Ja Rule), and Female Hottie. Tying with J. Lo is Shane West, nominated for Best Chemistry (with Mandy Moore in ”A Walk To Remember”), Best TV Actor (”Once and Again”), and Male Hottie. A full ballot will be online at Seventeen’s website between June 7 and July 19. You have to be between 13 and 19 to vote, but as anyone who’s ever been in a chatroom knows, everyone on the Internet is between 13 and 19.
