MUSIQ APPRECIATION

The artist formerly known as Musiq Soulchild dropped his last name for his sophomore release but may be adding some zeros to the end of his sales figures. Musiq’s Juslisen sold 260,000 its first week–handily beating even a Mother’s Day upsurge by Celine Dion, who landed at No. 2 by jumping into 143,000 moms’ laps. Coming in third was Lauryn Hill, whose controversial two-CD set of all-new, all-acoustic, all-emotionally-fraught songs, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, moved 123,000 units. Naughty by Nature squeaked into the top 15 with a 49,000-copy bow. But the real phenomenon is bubbling under pop-jazz thrush Norah Jones, as 45,000 converts came away with Come Away With Me, pushing her to No. 17.
