Tales From The 'Script'

Posted on

”I didn’t really start watching until halfway through the first season,” admits Eric Aasen, the indefatigable webmaster of The Complete Friends Script Index (thecfsi.com). Aasen has been a diligent viewer ever since: Every month, the 26-year-old aspiring race-car mechanic living near Sonoma, Calif., spends up to 20 hours painstakingly transcribing new Friends episodes for his exhaustive website. Aasen didn’t conceive the site: What started as a helping hand to a U.K.-based webmaster became a full-fledged endeavor in 1998. In addition to the scripts, Aasen posts reader-submitted fiction (”I…make sure they don’t have swearing or graphic depictions of sex”). Though he’s no writer himself — ”I know my limitations” — Aasen does have opinions on past episodes. His favorite: ”The One With the Embryos.” His least favorite: ”the whole Ross and Rachel marriage.” Aasen’s site — which boasts up to 6,000 hits per day — also enjoys global interest (half his visitors live outside the U.S.), with sister sites offering French and Italian translations. We still think ”Come va?” has nothing on ”How you doin’?”
