HEALTH WATCH Jewel‘s boyfriend is rodeo star Ty Murray, but it was she who was thrown from a horse and injured, an Atlantic Records spokesperson said yesterday. ”I think it was a freak accident. She does ride horses very frequently,” he said. The 27-year-old singer broke her collarbone and a rib when she was thrown from the colt at Murray’s ranch southwest of Dallas. She will have to wear a collar and a sling for at least four weeks, casting doubt on her European tour, which was to have started May 10. She’s still expected to begin her U.S. tour on June 14 in Tampa.

SOUND BITES Sheryl Crow‘s ”C’mon, C’mon,” her first studio album in four years, entered the Billboard chart this week at No. 2, falling just 5,300 discs shy of dethroning Ashanti, whose has held the top spot since its release three weeks ago. ”Ashanti” sold 190,050 copies according to SoundScan, compared to 184,725 for ”C’mon.” Celine Dion‘s ”A New Day Has Come” was pushed to third place (163,150 sold), followed by compilation ”NOW That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 9” in fourth (124,250 units) and the ”Scorpion King” soundtrack at No. 5 (66,525 copies).

Opera boy Josh Groban, whose recent appearances on ”20/20” and ”The Rosie O’Donnell Show” helped his ”Josh Groban” CD leap from No. 121 to No. 12 last week, entered the top 10 this week at No. 8. The rest of the top 10 included such familiar discs as Tweet‘s ”Southern Hummingbird” (No. 6), the ”O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack (No. 7), Pink‘s ”M!ssundaztood” (No. 9), and Shakira‘s ”Laundry Service” (No. 10).

LEGAL BRIEFS Robert Blake‘s attorney, Harland Braun, identified two stuntmen whom the actor has apparently known since his ”Baretta” days as prosecution witnesses who will testify that Blake tried to hire them to kill his wife. Prosecutors, however, have declined to say whether stuntmen Gary McLarty and Ronald ”Duffy” Hambleton are the witnesses in question. ”The problem with these witnesses is, if this is true, why didn’t they call the police?” Braun told the Associated Press on Wednesday.

McLarty’s son, Cole, also a stuntman, confirms that Blake approached his father. He tells People magazine that the two men got together at a restaurant, where Blake ”proposed money or something for my dad to do something to his wife…. He just left it at that.” But the elder McLarty didn’t take the actor seriously, Cole says. ”He just walked out and thought that [Blake] was crazy.” Nor should he have taken Blake seriously, Braun tells People. ”It’s totally fabricated, or maybe Robert was bemoaning [Bonny] and said something like, ‘I could kill the bitch,”’ he says. ”Being Hollywood, these things get exaggerated.”

Gary McLarty’s testimony was at issue in another Braun trial in 1987, over the ”Twilight Zone” involuntary manslaughter case, in which Braun was defending director John Landis on charges that his negligence had led to the death of star Vic Morrow and two child actors in an on-set helicopter crash. McLarty was the stunt coordinator for the film and was in the helicopter during the accident. McLarty testified that Morrow had asked to perform hazardous stunts himself and had resisted requests to use a stunt double. Landis was aquitted…

Despite her arrest, her suit will go on. The woman who accused Celine Dion‘s husband of raping her has been arrested for bouncing $500,000 worth of checks. Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon, a Los Angeles resident and an ordained minister in the Full Gospel World church, was arrested in Pasadena on April 18 on a check forgery warrant. She’s accused of writing nine bad checks, one of them for $200,000, to two Las Vegas casinos, Harrah’s and the Flamingo, between 1999 and 2001. She faces a possible 36 years in prison. In March, Kwon sued Dion’s husband, Rene Angelil, accusing him of raping her in a Las Vegas hotel two years ago. Las Vegas police say that Kwon never reported the alleged incident, which they started investigating only after she filed the lawsuit. Angelil’s lawyers have denied the allegation and say they hope the Las Vegas police will note Kwon’s arrest in evaluating the credibility of her accusation against him….
