— DESTINY CALLS Nicolas Cage and Chow Yun-Fat may soon be working on the railroad. Director John Woo, who partnered with Cage in the upcoming Windtalkers, says the actors are negotiating to star in his next project, Men of Destiny, for Disney. ”We’ve offered it to them, and they’re very excited about this subject and excited to work together,” says Woo. ”If they don’t have a scheduling problem, it will happen.” Written by Face/Off screenwriters Mike Werb and Michael Colleary, Men tells the story of a Chinese and Irish team who worked for the Central Pacific Railroad in 1864. Unlike Windtalkers, which is a WWII drama, ”Men of Destiny is mainly a drama and a character piece,” says Woo. ”There’s some conflict between the Irish and the Chinese, but at the end of the film, they all work together and work [on their] friendships.” Woo has been scouting locations in Utah, Colorado, and California, and hopes to begin production in August.

— OPPORTUNITY KNOXVILLE Just in case you were losing sleep over this, we’re delighted to report that Johnny Knoxville, a.k.a. Jackass, is alive and well midway through filming his upcoming feature. ”It will be much naughtier than the [MTV] series,” he assures us. ”We’ll take full advantage of the R rating.” Knoxville adds that ”we do have some celeb cameos the same way we had Brad Pitt on the series,” but he doesn’t have a lot to say about the plot. ”There is no script,” Knoxville admits. ”Just a lot of bad ideas rolled into one.” Hey, you guys made him famous.
