Heather Artinian, a 5-year-old girl who, like her parents, is deaf, wants to be part of the hearing world. New advances in technology make her seemingly straightforward desire a reality. But her parents worry their daughter will abandon their outsider culture, and her hearing grandparents counter by accusing them of selfish abuse. Heather tries her best to ignore the angry flutter of sign language. When each side has the best of intentions, can either win such a passionate debate? The resulting family drama is loving and fearful in ways a Hollywood movie would be hard-pressed to reproduce.
