After one too many rummage-for-the-ringing-cell-phone moments, L.A. actress/designer Poppie Harris, 26, took action: ”I decided to come up with a bag that could hold the bare essentials.” The 5” x 3” poppiebag is tiny enough to hook onto a belt loop or purse strap, big enough for the basics (including cell phone), and hip enough for fashion fiends. Sold at such stores as Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York ($145; 866-4POPPIE), the hand-sewn, silk-lined totes sport crystal-studded straps and come in 15 trendy styles ranging from patent to python. After only six months, the poppiebag is already in high demand, with Calista Flockhart, Cameron Diaz, and Debra Messing among its devotees. Harris even gave ”Emmy bags” (in zebra-striped suede) to 20 nominees, including winners Patricia Heaton and Edie Falco. Next up: Chantilly lace-and-satin cell clutches, plus cool diaper bags.
