E. Lynn Harris recommends Father Found: A Novel by RM Johnson (Washington Square Press, $13.95) The story is set in Chicago, my hometown, and focuses on the problem of so many children growing up in single-family homes. It’s about a vigilante, a bounty hunter of sorts, whose mission is finding fathers and returning them to their homes by any means necessary. This is a story of redemption and accountability. Johnson is using fiction to bring attention to something that’s still of particular concern to the African-American community, and really to all communities.

E. Lynn Harris is the author of If This World Were Mine and Abide With Me. His next novel, Any Way the Wind Blows, will be published in July.
