TIMBA! For the past few years, Timbaland has been the hip hop producer of the moment, crafting hot tracks for Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Ginuwine, the Lox, Ludacris, Aaliyah, and others. Now that his second solo album with rapper Magoo is nearly complete, he’s planning to put a freeze on his outside production work. ”I’m turning people away,” he says. ”I can’t be giving my sound out to everybody anymore. I got to look out for me.”
And while it’s been reported that Tim and Magoo’s new disc, ”Indecent Proposal,” tentatively due in March, would feature guests like Gwen Stefani and Eminem, the producer says otherwise. ”We wanted all those people at first,” he admits, ”but right now I’m so comfortable with the album that I feel like we don’t need them. We the stars — we almost finished and we got no room left anyway.” Oh well — at least there was room for Beck; his track, ”I’m Music,” is slated for inclusion. Odelay!
BOYS II BOI And speaking of hot rap duos, OutKast’s Big Boi and Dre, flush with the success of their double platinum ”Stankonia,” already have their next album planned. Big Boi promises it will be a two CD set: ”One disc will be all my music, the other will be all Dre. I don’t think anyone’s ever done that before. We’ve got a lot of songs, maybe 40 — when we finished ‘Stankonia,’ we just kept on recording.”
The as yet untitled effort should be out in late 2001 or early 2002, says Big Boi. In the meantime, he says, OutKast are doing a favor for some new friends: ”The Backstreet Boys just asked us to remix their single [”Shape of My Heart”]. They say they like what we do.” What’s the game plan? ”We gonna make it sound raw.”
