As someone who attended the shul where ex-Third Bass rapper MC Serch sang in the choir, I’d say a book that explored the link between Judaism and the rock experience was long overdue. But surely the subject deserves better treatment than Jews Who Rock, a typo-ridden clip job by Madonna partner Oseary (with help from the staff of music magazine Alternative Press) that pairs 103 baseball-card-like bios with say-nothing analyses. There are surprises — Rush’s Geddy Lee (né Gary Lee Weinrib), Keith Morris of the Circle Jerks, and Robbie Robertson. You’ve got to wonder, though, about a book that would leave out Rick Rubin, the producer-mogul responsible for some of the heaviest rock of the past two decades. It’s totally meshugge. C-
