MOTHER, MAY I?
Britney Spears may be on tour, but her mom, Lynne Spears, is meeting with publishers about a Mother’s Day parable that they would cowrite in time to be out next May. ”It would be a small hardcover, like [Richard Paul Evans’] The Christmas Box,” says an editor who has spoken with David Vigliano, the Spears’ agent.
Long Island Lolita Amy Fisher is about to get a second chance… to publish the story of her redemption and the prison time she served for shooting Mary Jo Buttafuoco, her lover Joey’s wife, in 1992. After failing to find a publisher for A Second Chance — which would have an intro by Mary Jo — Fisher’s agent, Al Lowman, will partner with packager Cader Books and publish the memoir as a print-on-demand title purchased on the Internet. ”It’s a no-brainer,” says Lowman. ”You have a built-in audience for someone who’s a household name.” The agent contends that publishers passed because ”corporations shy away from controversy.” But one editor who turned it down disagrees: ”It’s just an old tired story that everyone got enough of when it was current.” Lowman, meanwhile, is working with the project’s writer, Connie deSwaan, to publish in time for May sweeps, when Mary Jo and Amy will be available to the networks for joint interviews.
WILD AT HEART
Carre Otis, ex-wife of Mickey Rourke — and his costar in the soft-core flick Wild Orchid — is shopping a memoir, A Hole in the Heart. The title, says Otis’ agent, Frank Weimann, refers to the surgery the model underwent last year to fix a hole in her heart — and to the end of her rocky relationship with Rourke. ”It’s a story of a woman who has overcome a lot of adversity and an addictive lifestyle,” says Weimann, who has required editors considering the proposal to sign a confidentiality agreement because ”there are some very sensitive things in here.” He adds that the book will delve into Otis’ heroin addiction and recovery…. In other model news, sources say Hyperion will pay $1 million for a yoga book by Christy Turlington.
