In Bossa Nova, the kind of movie which could easily have costarred Doris Day and a gray-templed Rock Hudson, Irving plays a widowed expat who teaches English to hot-blooded Brazilians — including silver-fox lawyer Fagundes. Romance follows, but the romantic farce suggested by the wacky secondary characters never catches its rhythm. C-
