We gave it a C+

A tight, bright string section and some buoyant pop tunes — particularly the whistled ditty ”The Bandit” and the creepy, catchy ”Blinded by You” — drive the first half of the Norman, Okla., quintet Starlight Mint’s debut The Dream That Stuff Was Made Of. And while Dream at times plays up a too-pervasive Pixies influence (as in the familiar surf-guitar flurry of ”The Twilight Showdown”), these Mints can be quite refreshing. C+
