The latest iteration of the teen slasher genre — post Scream, self aware — finally disappears up its own hindquarters. In Urban Legends: Final Cut, a mysterious (read: easy to spot) killer is offing the witless crew of a student film at Alpine University, but all the Hitchcock references and Truffaut quotes can’t disguise the fact that this is debased swill, created by people who may have aced Cinema Studies but who appear to have zero knowledge of actual human behavior.

If watching a maniac drag a screaming woman through a window by grabbing the gaping wound in her side is your idea of entertainment, step right up. Like that kid in the old New Yorker cartoon, I say it’s spinach, and I say the hell with it. F
