We gave it a B+

Languorous as a day on a chaise longue but zippy as a fling, A Summer’s Tale, the third of Eric Rohmer’s Tales of the Four Seasons series, is an ode to escape. Poupaud’s Gaspard — one of those lanky boys with sensitive eyes — kills the weeks between grad school and real life on the beach talking about love with three different young women. The tangle of Gaspard’s romantic reversals and re-reversals grows a bit frustrating, but that very tedium seems apt — an incarnation of the August doldrums. B+
