We gave it a B+

The travails of an 18th-century clockmaker racing to discover how to determine, yes, Longitude, seem like a yawny historical epic that would have viewers checking their watches. But the real-life tale, based on Dava Sobel’s 1995 nonfiction best-seller of a scrappy inventor (Gambon) and the man (Irons) fixated, two centuries later, on the craftsman’s quest is a fascinating mishmash of scheming, powdered-wig politics, techno-logical obsession, and clandestine sanitarium lovin’. That’s what we call making time. B+
