SPLITS After hiding their marriage for nine years, pop princess Janet Jackson, 34, and director-songwriter Rene Elizondo, 37, are calling it quits. On May 31, Elizondo filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking to overturn a prenuptial pact. They separated last year. ”I’m as surprised as you are that we managed to keep it a secret,” Elizondo told the press; he cowrote 37 of her songs and helmed several of her videos. In a statement, Jackson said, ”It pains me greatly that despite my sincere efforts, my marriage to Rene did not work out.”… Austin Powers honey Heather Graham, 30, and actor-auteur Edward Burns, 32, have pulled the plug on their two-year relationship.
ARRESTED Country crooners Tim McGraw, 33, and Kenny Chesney, 32, were arrested June 3 in Orchard Park, N.Y., for some postconcert horseplay. After winning permission to sit on a sheriff’s horse, Chesney began to ride it. Police say the singers tussled with them after Chesney ignored orders to dismount. McGraw was charged with felony assault of an officer and three misdemeanors; Chesney, with disorderly conduct. McGraw’s lawyer says they are cooperating with authorities. No court date has been set.
COURTS Julia Roberts, 32, is the master of her domain — her Internet domain. On May 29, the U.N.’s World Intellectual Property Organization ruled against Princeton, N.J., entrepreneur Russell Boyd, who registered juliaroberts.com in ’98 and tried to auction it on eBay. Boyd plans to challenge the ruling.
AILING Comedy giant Bob Hope, 97, was hospitalized June 1 near Palm Springs, Calif., after suffering from intestinal pain and bleeding. At press time, he was in stable condition.
